The Begijnhof is a hidden courtyard in the center of Amsterdam that dates back to the 14th century. It was originally built as a sanctuary for the Beguines, a group of unmarried religious women who lived together in a community. Today, it is a peaceful oasis in the bustling city, with beautiful gardens, charming houses, and a chapel.

Visitors can enter the Begijnhof through a gate on the Spui square. Admission is free, and the courtyard is open daily from 9am to 5pm. The chapel is also open to visitors, and there are guided tours available in English on certain days.

Nearby attractions include the Amsterdam Museum, the Royal Palace, and the Anne Frank House. The museum and palace are open daily from 10am to 5pm, and the Anne Frank House is open from 9am to 10pm (with extended hours on some days). Tickets for the Anne Frank House must be purchased in advance online.
